BUYING LAND CAPE VERDE

.Research
It sounds simple but it is the MOST important factor in purchasing land in Cape Verde, not just in Cape Verde but anywhere. Use the Internet as much as you can, while it is not to be entirely relied on, cross referencing prices, locations and developments will give you a better idea of what is actually going on and what prices you can expect to pay for your land. Cape Verde also has a few online forums.

While often these can drop dramatically in standard, they will help again with getting a vibe from buyers who have gone through the purchasing process in Cape Verde. Find out which Island you think would interest you. Start bearing in mind the factors involved in the purchasing process such as a good lawyer, (they will need to be licensed to practice in Cape Verde), taxes, fees, visa requirements, bank accounts and setting up a company.

2.Go touring
It is a must to visit the location you intend to buy land in Cape Verde. The internet can only convey so much information. If you intend to invest your hard earned money in Cape Verde, then you should really bite the bullet and do a trip for €600 which could save or make you much more. Before you make your trip you will have already done some research as to which of the Islands you want to investigate. Though Cape Verde's islands are all volcanic in origin, they vary extensively in terrain from a still-active volcano on the island of Fogo, that is the highest point on the archipelago (el 2,829 meters).

Widespread salt flats are found on Sal and Maio. Santiago, Santo Antão, and São Nicolau, arid slopes give way in places to sugarcane fields or banana plantations spread along the base of soaring mountains.Sal, Praia, St Vincent and Boa Vista all have international airports but not all are service from the same departure points, some are more attractive, others more developed. By the time you have arrived to the island of your choice, you should know how to get to other islands you may want to investigate. Due to the development in the last 10 years a lot of information is not current so it is better to read through several Island guides to get a clear understanding of all the islands.

3.Legal advice
A good lawyer is imperative to any property purchase; if you've done your research properly you will have found one by yourself, probably on the advice of others. Simply by the nature of Cape Verde there is not a limitless supply of lawyers. The good ones are very busy and hard to locate. Take as much time as it takes in finding this vital link in your purchasing chain. Contact your lawyer prior to departing for Cape Verde, ask for an appointment, if they show up and are on time, it's a good bet your research has paid off.

Advantages of finding your own lawyer are that they can be totally independent from the seller or on the other hand they could be the sellers' lawyer as well, reflecting how your research can pay off. None of this is easy or happens overnight. Take your time with this as your legal representative will be responsible for how smoothly your transaction occurs and ultimately how costly. You will more than likely have to give them power of attorney to complete your purchase. Normally you can expect to pay between 2.5% -5% of the purchase price of the plot as legal fees. Some firms will have a set fee for land transactions.
